Consciousness

Wiebers' most recent book, published in 2012, pioneered a new topic in medical science.  In 2005, the journal Science published a special anniversary issue delineating 125 questions that scientists have so far failed to answer.  The most important unanswered question was "What is the Universe made of?" and the second most important was "What is the biological basis of consciousness?" Dr. Wiebers published Theory of Reality: Evidence for Existence Beyond the Brain and Tools for Your Journey to provide answers to these questions.

Theory of Reality has been presented and acclaimed at the highest levels of academic neuroscience.  The book includes evidence to support unexamined topics of modern science, such as the validity of Near-Death Experiences, the continuation of consciousness beyond death, and tools and techniques to facilitate Expanded-Reality Experiences, such as Peak Experiences.  It builds upon and adds to a purely materialistic approach to science, medicine, life and existence, while empowering people with knowledge and tools to look inward for their own answers to profound questions.  The scientific explanations are expressed in technical and lay terms for readers of varying educational backgrounds. The book also includes a section for the practical application of information, such as day-to-day methods to increase one's coherence, resilience and equanimity.  These approaches range from relatively simple approaches based on twelve key factors, to more esoteric metaphysical techniques.  Wiebers is among the first of American physicians to publish on the topic ofconsciousness.

In 2012, Wiebers and his colleagues formed TOR Group, LLC and TOR Foundation, in conjunction with the publication of Theory of Reality. TOR Group was founded to provide education regarding the nature of consciousness and to empower people with practical tools that advance their learning, creativity and human development.  TOR Foundation is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides education and financial support in the form of grants and special services contracts to organizations and endeavors that advance TOR Group’s message and strategic intent. Wiebers serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of both entities.  Wiebers founded TOR Group and TOR Foundation with the overarching purpose in mind, to help people live a happier, more successful and fulfilling life.  Shortly after founding TOR Group and TOR Foundation, Wiebers presented his theory at the University of Oxford, and delivered the Opening Keynote Lecture, Theory of Reality: The Biological Basis of Consciousness and the Nature of the Universe, to neuroscientists from 81 countries at the International Congress of Neurology and Epidemiology (ICNE) in Nice, France.  "This revolutionary discovery cannot be overestimated," said ICNE Congress Chair Valery Feigin, MD, PhD, Professor of Neurology and Editor-in-Chief, Neuroepidemiology. "It can change our lives, not only as individuals but also as a society.  Dr. Wiebers makes a compelling case for applying the Theory of Reality to the ultimate understanding of ourselves, the purpose of our existence and our place in the universe. The underlying concepts are fully explained and proven using scientific rigor to scrutinize critical evidence in a way that has heretofore not been achieved."
